Epileptic girl needs surgery

Antoña Reyes

There is a big chance that Antoña Reyes may be cured of epilepsy because her ailment was diagnosed and treated immediately.

Doctors have prescribed for the six-year-old girl maintenance medicines like Valproic acid and Levetizracin to prevent headaches and to keep her from falling whenever she has a seizure.

“She is enrolled as a Grade 1 student in our place in Caloocan City but she needs to undergo an operation in the dental region,” said her mother, Luzviminda Reyes, who is raising Antoña and another child by herself.

According to Reyes, doctors at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center have told her that her daughter’s decayed baby teeth needs to be removed before they begin to hurt as the pain may cause headaches and seizures.

Reyes, who works for a dressmaker, said she was seeking help from Inquirer readers because the operation would cost her P43,000. She already spends P5,000 a month for her daughter’s maintenance medicines.

Luzviminda Reyes’ contact number is 0921-3589087. Those who want to help Antoña recover can deposit their donations in her grandmother Eleuteria Reyes’ Landbank account (account # 603131-3127-367280).
