Fareñas to see action in undercard of Casimero’s fight

FORMER world title challenger Michael Fareñas of the Peñalosa Boxing Gym will face Kosol Sor Vorapin of Thailand on the undercard of IBF junior flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero’s title defense against Felipe Salguero of Mexico on Oct. 26.

Former two-division champ Gerry Peñalosa informed CDN of this match-up.

The 29-year-old Vorapin (17-16-1, 11 KOs) is a former PABA super bantamweight titlist. The 29-year-old Fareñas (35-4-4, 27KOs) beat Gerardo Zayas of Mexico by TKO in the opening round in Texas last April. This was his first win since losing a unanimous decision to Yuriorkis Gamboa in a WBA interim super featherweight title bout last December.

Fareñas also had a technical draw against WBA superfeatherweight champ Takashi Uchiyama last year in Saitama, Japan.

Peñalosa is currently in General Santos City and is helping to contact additional sparring partners for Manny Pacquiao for his upcoming fight against Brandon Rios in Macau.

Casimero (18W-2L, 10 KOs) will be making his third title defense after beating Pedro Guevara of Mexico and Luis Alberto Rios of Panama.

Salguero (18-4-1, 13KOs) lost to WBO light flyweight champ Donnie Nietes last year at the Resorts World in Pasay City but beat Armando Vasquez by TKO in the 7th in his last outing.

The Casimero-Salguero fight will be held at the Makati Coliseum in Makati City and will now be presented by MP Promotions. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
