SWU nips bitter rival USC in Shakey’s Girls V-League

The belles of Southwestern University (SWU) reasserted their mastery over bitter rivals University of San Carlos (USC) as they repeated over the latter in thrilling fashion, winning in three sets in Group A action in the Cebu leg of the Shakey’s Girls V-League yesterday at the Aznar Coliseum.

The two teams met in the finals of the girls division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) several weeks ago, where SWU reigned supreme to take the title with a series sweep of USC.

With their confidence boosted, the belles of SWU pulled out all the stops to take a 25-19, 19-25, 25-13 win, their second in as many games in this competition.

In other games in Group A, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) claimed a 25-20, 20-25, 25-22 win over the resilient Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC).

Adding insult to injury, SHS-AdC suffered its second straight loss after losing to the University of Southern Philippine-Foundation (USP-F), 15-25, 17-25.

In Group B, the Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus bounced back from their opening day loss to the Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School by whopping the PAREF-Southcrest, 25-19, 25-18.

The champion of this tournament will advance to the Tournament of Champions, where it will be pitted against the best high school volleyball squads in the land.
