Stolen taxi crashes

A taxi which was allegedly commandeered by two carwash boys overturned after it hit a center island at the Mandaue City Reclamation Area past midnight yesterday.

Police said the taxi was running at high speed before it crashed into the center island at F.F. Cruz Street in barangay Subangdaku around 2 a.m. yesterday.

Police said two men crawled out of the overturned taxi and fled.

Police said there were no other vehicles on the road when the accident happened.

It was later found out that the two men tried to steal the Airland taxi with plate number GWV-118.

One of the two men, who were reportedly from Negros Occidental, was identified as Romeo Ughay while the other was only identified as a certain Raymart.

The two men worked as carwash boys in the garage of Airland taxi, said PO2 Rosendo Ortalla, traffic investigator of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO).

Police said the taxi driver, Arnold J. Meguiso, 35 left the vehicle in the garage of Airland taxi in barangay Cansojong, Talisay City last Thursday midnight.

Police said Mesguiso usually leaves the car’s key inside the taxi whenever he goes home.
