MANILA, Philippines – Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson said the 14 bridges in Bohol damaged by the recent 7.2-magnitude earthquake would be restored in a week to a month’s time.
Singson, in a statement, said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will need less than a month to repair the three bridges that were heavily damaged.
“All the others are minor—‘yung mga approach lang, settlements—which means that out of the 14, the 11 remaining should be passable within a week’s time,” he said.
Bridge and structural engineers from the government and the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers will assess the province’s infrastructures including hospitals, school buildings, municipal halls and public markets.
In an earlier report, the DPWH listed the following bridges deemed impassable:
-Abatan Bridge along Tagbilaran North Road, bridge collapse;
-Camayaan Bridge along Tagbilaran North Road in Cortes, bridge approach damage;
-Tultogan Bridge along Tagbilaran North Road in Calape, bridge approach collapse;
-Tagbuane Bridge along Tagbilaran East Road in Albur, bridge collapse;
-Moalong Bridge along Tagbilaran North Road, bridge collapse;
-Hunan Bridge along Tagbilaran North Road, settlement of bridge approach;
-Taguimtim, Damiao and Daet Bridges along Tagbilaran North Road in Buenavista, settlement of bridge approach;
-Palo, Hinawanan, Bonkokan, Banban, and Panangatan Bridges along Tagbilaran East Road, bridge approaches with cracks/settlement; and
-Agape Bridge along Loay Interior Road, bridge approaches with cracks.
On Wednesday, authorities said some towns in Bohol could still not be reached because of the damaged roads and bridges. The towns of Loon and Maribojoc could only be reached by sea.
