Over 400,000 families affected by Bohol quake–NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines – A total of 441,709 families were affected by the magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Bohol Tuesday morning, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

NDRRMC Executive Director Eduardo del Rosario said that this was from the data gathered by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) from Bohol, Cebu, and Suquijor, the provinces most hit by the quake.

Thirteen evacuation centers have been set up in Bohol serving 9,000 individuals, he said. The number of affected families there was 102,515.

In Cebu, a total of 336,517 families were affected while there were 2,677in Siquijor, Del Rosario said.

Ready-to-eat food and water are needed for the hard hit provinces, he said.

The death toll has reached close to 100 with 164 injured, according to reports. In Bohol, alone 57 were recorded dead.

Asked if he expected the death toll to rise further, Del Rosario said, “If possible let’s keep it to a minimum, let’s hope for the best.”
