Typhoon ‘Santi’ causes millions in damage to military camps in Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — The wrath of Typhoon “Santi” (international name Nari) has cost almost P50 million worth of damages in two major military camps in Luzon.

Camp Servillano Aquino, which houses the Northern Luzon Command in Tarlac, recorded a loss of P14,028,650, said Major Emmanuel Garcia, commander of the 7th Civil Relations Group.

The Nolcom oversees military operations in northern and Central Luzon.

The headquarters of Nolcom suffered P10 million in damages, while the Armaments and Ammunitions Battalion had P3.7 million worth of losses.

At Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija, which houses the Army’s 7th Infantry Division and the elite army troops of the Special Operations Command, recorded damages were at P32,074,000.

Fort Magsaysay is the biggest military camp in the Philippines.

Other major camps like Clark and Basa Airbase in Pampanga and Camp Tecson, headquarters of Scout Rangers in Bulacan, also had minor damages. But estimates on the damages were not immediately available.

The provinces of Tarlac and Nueva Ecija were the hardest hit provinces of Typhoon Santi.
