Comelec disqualifies another mayor for vote-buying

MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) ordered the disqualification of Roxas, Isabela Mayor Benedict Calderon on grounds of vote-buying, said Radyo Inquirer 990AM Tuesday.

The report said the Comelec 1st Division, headed by Commissioner Christian Robert Lim, ordered Calderon’s disqualification after the poll body gathered proofs of vote-buying.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez confirmed the news on Twitter.

Calderon is a member of the Nationalist Peoples’ Coalition (NPC).

On Friday, the poll body announced the disqualification of Norzagaray, Bulacan Mayor Alfredo Germar and Councilor Rogelio Santos Jr. for allegedly giving out P500 to P1,000 to voters.
