Killer road to zone of discipline?

A councilor has asked Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista to declare Commonwealth Avenue a “discipline zone” and order the creation of an inter-agency task force to enforce laws in the area 24/7.

Ranulfo Ludovica noted that the stretch of Commonwealth Avenue was accident-prone because of “speeding motor vehicles and undisciplined pedestrians and passengers.”

According to him, if Commonwealth Avenue is declared a “discipline zone,” it will mean the strict enforcement of laws round-the-clock by an inter-agency task force to be chaired by the mayor.

Other members will be the chairpersons of the House committee on Metro Manila development as well as the city council committees on public order and security; climate change adaptation and risk reduction; and committee on transportation.

Also being considered as members are representatives of the Quezon City police, Highway Patrol Group, Land Transportation Office and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
