THE VOLLEYBELLES of the Cebu Doctor’s University (SWU) continued their Cinderella-run through the 2013 Cesafi volleyball tournament as they gave rise to their bid to reach the finals with a four-set win over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) last Thursday night at the Aznar Coliseum.
Once considered to be doormats of the league, CDU has transformed itself into a legitimate title contender and showed it once more in beating USPF, 25-7, 20-25, 25-12, 25-14.
The win put CDU in a good spot to land one of the two seats in the finals. USPF, meanwhile, dropped to 1-1 (win-loss) in the single-round robin semis after beating the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) earlier in the week.
In the high school division, the girls of the Southwestern University (SWU) kept their hot streak going as they bucked a first set loss to beat the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in three sets, 22-25, 25-9, 25-12. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
