THE RACE FOR the finals kick off into high gear today as the semifinal round of the 2013 Cesafi volleyball tournament gets underway at the Aznar Coliseum.

In the girl’s division, the defending champions University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) hope to leave behind a so-so elimination round campaign and star anew when they battle the rising Southwestern University (SWU) at 6 p.m.

USJ-R finished the elimination round with just a 3-2 (win-loss) record while SWU was nearly perfect, losing just once in five games.

In the women’s division, the ladies of USJ-R will be taking on the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) at 7:30 p.m.

The semis will be a single round-robin affair with the top two finishers advancing to the championship round. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
