THE Philippines and Hungary face off in a crucial quarterfinal matchup that will determine who will take one of four semifinal spots of the 888.com World Cup of Pool 2013 held at the York Hall in Bethnal Green in London, United Kingdom.

Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo and Lee Vann “The Slayer” Corteza carried the fight for the Filipino pool wizards by posting a 7-3 win against Singapore bannered by Chan Keng Kwan and Aloysius Yapp in the Round of 16 to arrange a quarterfinal showdown with Hungary composed of Balazs Mikos and Gabor Solymosi, who brought down the Russian pair of Konstantin Stepanov and Ruslan Chinakhov, 7-4 in their Round of 16 match-up.

The Filipinos took 3-1 and 6-2 leads against Singapore and never looked back for the 7-3 triumph.

Completing the Final Eight are Finland which will battle England-B, Holland which will play Japan, and Chinese Taipei which will square off with England-A.

The winning team will receive US$60,000 out of the US$250,000 total purse. /Correspondent Marlon Bernardino
