Mega Cebu Month kicks off

In its pursuit of creating a more sustainable Metro Cebu, the Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB) launched the Mega Cebu Month last Sept. 2 at the Cebu Provincial Capitol.

With the theme “Mega Cebu: Making W.A.V.E.S.! (Wholesome, Advanced, Vibrant, Equitable and Sustainable),” the month of September is dedicated to various urban challenges of partner local government units (LGUs) to be put in a metro-wide context through workshops and group discussions.

Mega Cebu Vision 2050 was inaugurated last March to promote a long-term and collaborative planning towards a more sustainable Cebu.

Mega Cebu Month is one of the ventures to create a mass-based support for the Mega Cebu program and a component of Mega Cebu’s strategic communication plan that calls for an extensive awareness building this year.

Each week highlights activities focusing on four development areas, namely Integrated Development and Planning, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Knowledge Management, Environment and Public Safety and Human Resources, Assets and Partnerships.

The first week a workshop on land use harmonization was held, while the second week featured an ICT symposium.

A forum on power was held on Sept. 16; on the 18th, a workshop on Community Environment and Natural Resources Office was held. This weekend, a seminar on water issues will be facilitated by Architect Socorro Atega.

On Sept. 24, a high school quiz bowl and poster making contest will be held in the morning, followed by the speech contest in the afternoon.

The college quiz bowl and painting will be held in the morning of Sept. 25; the extemporaneous speech challenge is slated in the afternoon.

On Sept. 27, the search for the Mega Cebu Ambassadors takes place at the Cebu International Convention Center. Thirteen pairs of young men and women representing their respective LGUs in Metro Cebu will vie for the crown.

The photography contest and choir competition is on Sept. 21; android application contest on Sept. 23 and poster-making contest on Sept. 24.

Mega Cebu Month will end on Sept. 29 with an Inter-City Fun Ride and Bike Festival.
