THE UNIVERSITY of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Spiking Jaguars are just a win away from completing a sweep of the elimination round after dominating the Cebu Doctor’s University (CDU) White Stallions in the 2013 Cesafi men’s volleyball tournament last Sunday at the Aznar Coliseum.
The wards of legendary head coach Grace Antigua barely broke a sweat as they beat their hapless opponents, 25-13, 25-11, 25-15, for their sixth win in as many starts.
The win also allowed USJ-R to remain half-a-game ahead of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), which also won last Sunday.
USPF gained its fifth straight win after beating the University of Cebu (UC), 25-14, 25-22, 25-12.
CDU remained winless in five games while UC fell to 3-4.
Meanwhile, the race for the other two semifinal seats continue to be fierce as the defending champions University of San Carlos (USC) bucked a sloppy first set performance to win over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 21-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-12.
The Southwestern University (SWU) Spiking Cobras are also within striking distance of making it to the Final Four after they bested the University of the Visayas (UV), 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-22.
SWU, UV and USC are all tied in the standings with identical 3-3 (win-loss) records. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
