Roving QC cops kill 2 robbers

Two men were killed in a shootout with the police right after they robbed the passengers of a jeepney on Wednesday night in Quezon City.

The policemen were on patrol when they saw one of the jeepney passengers jump from the vehicle, making them suspect that something was going on.

Some of the other passengers’ belongings were later recovered following the shootout in front of Quezon Institute on E. Rodriguez Sr. Boulevard near the corner of Araneta Avenue.

The police said they have yet to identify the two suspected robbers. One of them was described as 5’2” in height, of slim build, with fair skin, and dressed in a grey shirt and blue denim shorts. His cohort was at least 5’9” in height, and clad in blue jeans and a maroon shirt with the image of the Black Nazarene.

The robbery happened in a Cubao-bound jeepney (PXC 273) driven by Samuel Deloso at 10:35 p.m. on Wednesday.

Case investigator PO3 Jamie de Jesus said the two robbers boarded the jeep, declared a heist, and took the bags and valuables of Russel Valdez, 28; Rodolfo Usero, 27; Clifford Endrina, 17; and Melissa Malilin, 18.

Unknown to the two men, a police team from the Galas police station led by Supt. Victor Pagulayan was going around the area.

When they saw a man jump from the moving jeepney, they approached the vehicle, but the robbers jumped out and fired shots at them.

The policemen also drew their firearms and fired back, killing the two men on the spot. Aside from the victims’ valuables, they recovered two .38-caliber revolvers from the suspects.
