KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato—Officials at the provincial jail here have intercepted a package of shabu camouflaged as  chocolate candy bars intended for an inmate, official said Wednesday.

Senior Jail Officer 3 Edwin Paalisbo of the Provincial Rehabilitation Center said the package, which was intercepted on Tuesday, had been sent by courier and was addressed to inmate Jason James Arnaiz, a carjacking suspect.

Guards inspecting incoming packages became suspicious of the package, which was labeled food stuff, and decided to open it for closer examination.

Tuesday’s incident was not the first time that relatives of detainees tried but failed to sneak in illegal drugs.
