SWU sweeps elims

THE DETHRONED champions Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras continued on their quest to reclaim the crown as they swept their elimination round assignments with a straight-set win over the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Lady Panthers in the 2013 Cesafi volleyball tournament at the University of San Carlos (USC) gym last Sunday.

Thwarted by USC in surprising fashion last year, the wards of head coach Jordan Paca set their sights on redemption this season. So far, they are dishing out one stellar performance after another and maintained that trend with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 victory over USP-F for their fifth win in a row.

USP-F fell to 1-2 (win-loss) in this tournament.

Meanwhile, the Cinderella-story of the competition, the Cebu Doctor’s University (CDU), moved up to second place in the standings after upending the University of Cebu (UC), 25-10, 25-13, 25-13. The victory pushed CDU’s record to 2-1 while sending UC to its second straight defeat. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
