Smoke Free run set on Oct. 6 in Talisay
THE Talisay District Hospital continues its drive for a healthier lifestyle as it hosts the 3rd Run For 100 Percent Smoke Free on Oct. 6 starting at the Talisay City Hall.
The running event will offer three-kilometer, 6k, 12k and 21k distances and is organized by the Talisay District Hospital in coordination with the Talisay City Runners Club and the Talisay City Sports Commission.
Organizers said they are holding this event because they want to continue to push for a smoke-free city.
“Four out of 10 patients in the district hospital dies from lung-related disease,” said Dr. Camila Conde, the chairman of the Tobacco Control Committee of the Talisay District Hospital in yesterday’s official launching at the AA Barbeque and Grill in Pardo, Cebu City. “We want to promote awareness of the effects of smoking and we hope that the city government will make a move in regulating smoking in the city for the benefit of its constituents.”
Joining Conde in the press launching were Talisay City Councilor Danny Caballero, Talisay City Sports Commission chairman Engr. Jeanette Villagonzalo and Talisay City Runners Club (TCRC) president Jasmin Orlanes-Olorvida.
According to Olorvida, the funds raised from this running event will be given to the Santa Teresa de Avila Parish, which will be celebrating its annual fiesta on October.
