UC shines in Jawad table tennis

THE University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters finished strong in the recent 22nd Jawad Table Tennis Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

UC bagged the men’s team event, men’s singles and the boys-under 18 crowns.

Leading UC’s charge was Dannel Jay Tormis, who won in two divisions, including the team event where he joined Val Stephen Jaca and Francis Bendebel.

Tormis beat Jaca to clinch the men’s open singles title while Bendebel settled for third place. Tormis defeated Jann Mari Nayre of Hua Ching to secure the title in the boys under-18 singles event. Bendebel once again placed third.

LOPTTA’s Emy Rose Dael edged Elonna Dane Tormis and Athena Comaingking to dominate the women’s open singles and girls under-18 singles divisions, respectively.

LOPTTA also scored a huge win in the girls under-13 singles after Ann Gela Borbon, Alyssa Toleco and Edria Garganian took the top three spots, respectively. The team also lorded it over the girls under-13 team event.

University of San Carlos (USC) won the boys 13-under after Dominic Lucero, Ricardo Antigua and Jun Paul Mayormita teamed up to top the competition. UC settled for second while the Bohol Table Tennis Club settled for third.

Eljey Dan Tormis and Bj Joshua Cabrillos of the Cebu City Central School dominated the boys under-13 singles after they finished at 1-2 spots. John Carl Aquino of Ormoc City placed third.

The tandem of Cebu Table Tennis Club composed of Berto Bas and Christopher Lim emerged the strongest in the liha team event after edging TELEMCO of Neilben Carreon and Al Povadora. Liha Paddlers of Glenn Jacalan and Boyet Barbon placed third. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
