Couple killed at home

Unidentified assailants shot and killed a common-law couple while they were having dinner in their house in barangay Cogon, Naga City, southern Cebu.

Merlita Alcontin, 54, and Eduardo Caniban, 60, were already dead when police arrived in their house shortly after the attack Saturday night.

The couple’s two children were unharmed.

Police said the family was having dinner when two men barged into their house and started firing.

Police said the assailants, who wore helmets, fled on a motorcycle.

Alcontin suffered two gunshots in the jaw and neck. Caniban succumbed to three gunshot wounds in the head.

Police recovered five slugs of a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.

Further investigation will be conducted to identify the assailants and determine the motive of the crime, police said. /UP INTERN VICTOR ANTHONY V. SILVA
