Police bust illegal gambling group

Police arrested six persons on suspicion of involvment in the illegal numbers game locally known as masiao in barangay Lamintak Norte, Medellin town, northern Cebu.

Rogelio Ancero Mangubat, Teodoro Bardisco Yurag, Alfredo Rosales Yurag, Monalisa Pradilla Lanurias, Michael Mayol Yuson and Rosabella Canales Gulfan were caught allegedly tallying masiao sheets outside a house Thursday morning.

Chief Insp. Armando Labora of the Provincial Intelligence Branch of the Cebu Provincial Police Office said Lamintak Norte barangay captain Rene Olivar is the alleged the financier of the illegal gambling activities.

Labora said Olivar was with the group but he was able to evade arrest.

Police said Olivar has been the subject of police surveillance for his alleged involvement in masiao.

Aside from illegal gambling paraphernalia, police also seized 12 motorcycles and a barangay- owned Multicab which were used in the illegal activity.

Labora said charges will be filed against Olivar.
