SWU alumna named outstanding teacher

The sacrifices and effort of educating special children finally paid off for this teacher from Iloilo City.

Fely Aragon Batiloy, an alumna of Southwestern University Graduate School of Health Science, Management and Pedagogy, was chosen as one of the Ten Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teachers of the Philippines for 2013.

Batiloy completed her Master of Education in Cultural Education at SWU in 2011.

She finished her Bachelor of Education major in Music at the University of San Agustin Iloilo.

Batiloy is now teaching at the Special Education Integrated School for Exceptional Children in Iloilo City (SPED-ISEC).

She is the 12th awardee from Iloilo City and second from SPED-ISEC.

Dr. Richard Ruelan, Graduate School assistant dean, said “We are so proud of her. She is truly an inspiration. And because of her accomplishment, we will give her the opportunity to inspire her fellow Southwesterners as she delivers her commencement speech during our Oct. 27 graduation. She will also receive a plaque of recognition from her proud Alma Mater for her outstanding achievement.”

Batiloy joins the elite group of 316 outstanding teachers of the Philippines honored by Metrobank Foundation since 1985.

They will be presented to the leaders of the business community, government and school officials in an awarding ceremony on Sept. 5 at the Metrobank Plaza auditorium in Makati City.

Now on its 29th year, the Metrobank Foundation’s Search for Outstanding Teachers continues to give recognition to the teachers who have served as models of excellence and integrity to the community and the country.
