MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III assured Janet Lim-Napoles of her safety after the businesswoman surrendered to him Wednesday night, Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II said in an interview with reporters past midnight Thursday.
Napoles, together with her brother Reynald Lim, went into hiding before authorities could serve the arrest warrants on them on August 15 in connection with the alleged serious illegal detention of the businesswoman’s aide and cousin Benhur Luy.
Roxas said that by receiving Napoles, Aquino only performed his duties as the “executor of the laws of the land.”
Roxas said that Lorna Kapunan, Napoles’ lawyer, sent surrender feelers to presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
