MANILA, Philippines – Vendors at the Rizal Park in Manila hit the jackpot during the Million People March rally Monday with some saying they made five times the usual amount of sales.
“Today I made around P2,500,” said Rudolfo de Jesus, 47, a vendor of assorted food.
On a normal day when there are no events, he only makes P500 to P400 from selling at the park near the Quirino Grandstand, he said.
“Swerte na yung mga P500 to P400,” he said.
Thousands of people went to Rizal Park, Manila for the anti-pork barrel or Priority Development Assistance Fund rally from Monday morning up to 2 p.m.
Carto, a vendor of empanada from Commonwealth Avenue, said he made P500 Monday.
His usual sales from selling at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center golf course reach only P200.
One vendor of fried calamares, however, said he isn’t likely to sell a lot because he arrived late.
“Baka talo,” said Jeffrey. “I arrived at 11 a.m. already but if I arrived earlier I might make a big profit,” he said.
“When there is really an occasion this is the place to go to sell,” he said.
