/ 06:35 AM August 24, 2013

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama is asking private school administrators to install security cameras on campus to deter crime.

Rama said having closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will help prevent crimes such as kidnapping and robberies.

“I’m supposed to write all (private) schools in the city that in line with peace and order, I’d like to encourage them to put up CCTVs,” he said.

Apart from security cameras, Rama said schools should put up a public address system.

“Kung makita gani nga naay mga estudyante nagpundok-pundok, pwede sila maingnan nga dili pwede mag-pundok (If students will be seen hanging around, they can be told not to do so through the PA system),” he said.

Rama said public schools should do the same with the help of barangay officials and Parent-Teacher Associations.

He said he wants to prioritize private schools since they have a bigger population and are mostly located in commercial areas./CORRESPONDENT JOSE SANTINO BUNACHITA
