Aquino visits evacuation centers in Laguna, Mandaluyong

MANILA–President Aquino on Wednesday began to make the rounds of evacuation centers in Biñan and San Pedro towns in Laguna and Mandaluyong City, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

Mr. Aquino was accompanied by Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and Office of Civil Defense Administrator Eduardo del Rosario, OCD deputy administrator Romeo Fajardo said in a press conference.

The NDRRMC said there are 133,000 people staying in 425 evacuation centers.

Earlier, the NDRRMC reported that more than a million individuals have been affected by tropical storm ”Maring”.

The storm enhanced the southwest monsoon which brought torrential rains in Metro Manila and provinces in Northern and Central Luzon.

The massive flooding practically had the country’s capital in a standstill on Tuesday.

A Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) official at the press conference said that the hardest hit regions were Central Luzon and CALABARZON.

An estimated P7.9 million worth of relief goods have been distributed to the victims, the DSWD official said.
