Bus falls into ravine in Cebu City

MANILA, Philippines—A mini bus carrying 35 passengers, mostly youth, fell into a 22-feet ravine in Cebu City early Wednesday, police said.

Several passengers sustained minor injuries, said Police Officer 1 Necio Torion of Cebu City Police-Station 10.

Torion said the bus, which was also carrying officers of the Sangguniang Kabataan, lost its brakes and fell off the road in San Carlos Heights around 9 a.m.

“It brakes failed and the driver lost control of the vehicle,” Torion quoted the driver as saying.

A radio report said the bus was carrying Sangguniang Kabataan officers, who were on their way to a conference.

Several people sustained “minor” injuries, Torion said, but added that they have yet to determine the number of injured victims.
