UK prosecutors charge Daily Mirror, Sun reporters
LONDON — British prosecutors say they are charging four journalists from the Daily Mirror and Sun newspapers with bribing officials for information.
The Crown Prosecution Service said Tuesday that former Daily Mirror journalist Greig Turnbull faces two charges of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office after he allegedly paid two prison officers for information about high-profile prisoners.
Three journalists at The Sun are charged with similar bribery offenses. The most senior is Graham Dudman, who is now the newspaper’s managing editor.
Nine people were charged in all, including a prison guard and a police officer.
The charges relate to Britain’s wide-ranging probe into phone hacking and other tabloid wrongdoing.
More than 30 people have been charged in the scandal, including journalists, police officers and former newspaper executives.
