MANILA, Philippines–Power distributor Manila Electric Co. said Tuesday afternoon that an estimated 125,012 of its customers in Metro Manila and nearby provinces experienced power outages as of 12 noon.

Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga said in a phone interview that the 125,102 customers make up about 2.38 percent of the power distributor’s customer network.

The outages, Zaldarriaga said, was because the power distributor “de-energized” electricity lines in heavily-flooded areas “to prevent untoward incidents.”

Affected areas were in Metro Manila and in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal.
