MANILA, Philippines – The local government of Pampanga placed the municipality of Macabebe under state of calamity on Tuesday, after being pounded by torrential rains brought about by storm-enhanced southwest monsoon.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Pampanga announced on Twitter that Macabebe had been placed under a state of calamity as of 12:04 p.m. on Tuesday with the approval of Sangguniang Bayan Resolution No. 18 series 2013.
Earlier reports said a 1-kilometer section of a tail dike in Minalin gave way because of the heavy rains, bringing more floodwaters towards Macabebe.
But Minalin Mayor Edgar Flores posted on Facebook that the Sta. Rita portion had merely overflowed. He added that sandbagging operations had started to prevent the dike from further overflowing.
Meanwhile, the San Pedro Cutud Tail Dike was 18 inches to spilling level as of 11:04 a.m.
Before the dike overflowed, evacuation operations went in full swing in Sta. Rita, Minalin.
