Red rainfall alert up in Metro Manila, 10 provinces

MANILA, Philippines — Red rainfall alert was raised by the state weather bureau in Metro Manila and nearby provinces as incessant heavy to intense rains pelted these areas Sunday night.

“Heavy to intense rains are affecting Metro Manila, Bataan, Zambales, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna and Batangas and most likely to continue for the next 3hours,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said at 9 p.m.

Residents of these areas were advised to take precautionary measures as severe is flooding is expected, it added.

The rains were caused by the prevailing southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical storm “Maring” (international name Trami) off Batanes.
