Train sideswipes nurse
A 23-year-old nurse died Tuesday morning after she was sideswiped and dragged for several meters by a train of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) in Manila. Gresan Gregory Gumban, a private nurse employed with the Makati Health Specialist Connection Inc., of 1st Street Fabie Subdivision in Paco, was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors at the Sta. Ana Hospital from extensive injuries on the head and body. Investigation showed Gumban was walking toward Pedro Gil Street beside the train tracks on her way to work at around 6:20 a.m. when the Tutuban Center-bound PNR train 202, operated by Jay Alejandro, passed through. Police theorized that a portion of Gumban’s backpack might have gotten caught on a part of the train causing the nurse to be dragged away.—Jeannette I. Andrade
