Wife identifies ‘chopped’ man in trash bag as missing husband

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities have identified the man whose dismembered body was found Wednesday stuffed inside a garbage bag in Manila, police said Thursday.

Senior Police Officer 1 Mario Asilo said victim Mark Reu Abesamis, 32, was positively identified by his wife, Thea, who claimed that her husband has been missing since Tuesday.

Thea was quoted as saying that her husband told her around 1:30 p.m on Tuesday that he was on his way to his friend George Matinez in Aurora Boulevard, Quezon City to have their car checked.

Mark told her that he would go straight to SM Fairview to meet one “Agnes” to deliver some items.

Thea said she tried to call Mark past 6 p.m., but wasn’t able to talk to him anymore.

Mark’s body was found at the corner of Maceda and Matimyas streets in Sampaloc, Manila around 7:45 a.m.

When authorities arrived at the area and opened the black trash bag, they were stunned to see the victim’s decapitated head, torso and legs.

Asilo added that the victim’s black Toyota Altis, laptop, cellphones and other personal items were missing.
