CEBU’S KRU Robert “Maldito” Serdone said he is ready to dethrone Ground and Pound VI lightweight champion Lordy Rey “Punisher” Yamit of Mindanao in their upcoming clash in the Ground and Pound VII: Resolution Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight card on Aug. 31 at the Cebu Coliseum.
Serdone, the founder of the Red Neos Iron Gladiators Muay Thai of Talisay City, said he is in great shape and ready for his five-round bout against Yamit.
“Before he can bring back his title in Mindanao, I will give him hell,” Serdone said.
He said he has been training more on his striking abilities, particularly boxing, to offset Yamit’s aggressiveness inside the ring. He also said he worked on his stamina in case the bout goes the distance.
“This will be the biggest fight of my career. I’ll do my best on fight night,” Serdone said.
Serdone dismissed rumors that he is not training seriously. In fact, Serdone said he is at the latter stages of his three-month training. “I’m very excited to face Yamit,” he said.
Yamit won the title last year against Cebuano Mark “Terminator” Araneta via technical knockout.
This fight card will be spearheaded by the match between Cebu-based Cris Marvyn “Lindol” Thompson Brooks of the United Kingdom and Davao City’s Lloyd Abucayan of the Beefit Phytons Pit from Mindanao for the vacant GPC heavyweight title.
Undefeated MMA fighter James “Spider” Serenio of SOMA Fight Club will also try to clinch the vacant flyweight title against veteran Victor “Gladiator” Torre.
In the lone kickboxing championship bout, Renan “Limbas” Noblefranca will defend his title for the second time against former Muay Thai Philippine Team member Marjun “Muma Warrior” Porriento. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
