MANILA, Philippines — Jo Christine Napoles, daughter of Janet Lim-Napoles, the woman tagged as the brains behind the alleged P10 billion pork barrel scam, has withdrawn her nomination as the second representative of the OFW Family Partylist.
In a statement released Thursday, OFW Family Representative Roy Señeres Sr. said that the younger Napoles withdrew her nomination to spare the partylist the controversy of being associated with her and her mother.
Despite withdrawing her nomination, the young Napoles would still be part of OFW Family Partylist.
“We know she could contribute a lot to our mission and advocacy,” Señeres said.
Napoles would have replaced Johnny Revilla, the partylist’s second nominee who was deemed by Seneres as being unqualified to be a member of the House of Representatives for allegedly being an American citizen.
Revilla faces a disqualification case in the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET).
The partylist has yet to decide on its second nominee, added Señeres.
Señeres said Christine Napoles is a low-profile person with an advocacy for overseas Filipino workers. She was recruited into the party by his children who were classmates of Napoles at the De La Salle University College of St. Benilde.
He said he only heard about Janet Lim-Napoles and her alleged involvement in the so-called “pork barrel scam” through news reports.
An earlier Inquirer report said Janet Lim-Napoles’ JLN Corp. was initially named Jo-Chris Trading after her eldest daughter Christine. – With a report by Kristine Angeli Sabillo
