THE GOLDBERRY Suites seized the solo leadership in the standings after it beat erstwhile league leaders Insular Square, 57-54, in the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Mivesa Cup last weekend at the Magis Eagles Arena inside the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu campus in Canduman, Mandaue City.
Justin Huang had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds that nudged Goldberry to its fifth straight win, while sending Insular to its first loss in this competition.
Goldberry’s Dave Ting had an all-around performance of 10 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals in what was a thrilling backcourt battle between him and Insular’s equally talented playmaker Ed Macasling, who finished with 15 points, seven boards, six dimes and five swipes.
Meanwhile, the Gaisano Capital forced a three-way tie for second place after it nipped the previously unbeaten RDAK Transporters, 50-47.
Gaisano, RDAK and Insular now share second place with similar 4-1 (win-loss) records.
In other games, Milco logged a 73-60 win over the San Remegio Aguilas and defending champion Cebu Landmasters defeated the A-Team, 86-70. Alberto’s Pizza broke into the win column after beating San Jose Bakeshop, 58-49. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
