Man killed in Minglanilla gun attack

A 46-year-old man was shot to death by two motorcycle-riding assailants in barangay Poblacion Ward 1, Minglanilla town, southern Cebu.

Lorito Menguito was driving a motorcycle on his way to the town proper when he was waylaid past 10 a.m. yesterday.

Police said the assailants were apparently waiting for the victim near the Minglanilla Central School.

Police said the assailants drove beside the victim then opened fire.

The victim fell from his motorcycle before the assailants finished him off with more shots, said PO2 Nikki Carl Plarisan of the Minglanilla police.

The victim was brought to the Minglanilla District Hospital but was declared dead by the attending physician .

Police are still investigating the motive for the attack.

In Carmen town, north Cebu, three men were wounded when they were shot at by motorcycle-riding gunmen past 11 p.m. Saturday.

Michael Capuno, 23, Ruel Pasaje, 29, and Reynan Derecho, 25, were having a drinking session in a nipa hut in barangay Poblacion when they were attacked.

Capuno and Pasaje sustained gunshot wounds in the legs and arms while Derecho was injured in the abdomen. They were taken to the Danao Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.

Police recovered six empty shells of a 9mm caliber pistol from+ the crime scene.  The incident is still under investigation, said SPO2 Simplicio Gibo of the Carmen police./CORRESPONDENT CHRISTINE M. PANTALEON AND REPORTER JOY CHERRY S. QUITO
