Rains to continue, says Pagasa

An inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and a low pressure area (LPA) triggered the afternoon thunderstorms in Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao in the past few days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Sunday.

The rain-inducing weather systems will continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to those regions in the next few days.

“These areas, including the National Capital Region, would be mostly cloudy,” said Pagasa’s Supervising Undersecretary Graciano Yumul.

The LPA was spotted over the Philippine Sea 570 kilometers east of the Visayas at around 8 a.m. yesterday, forecaster Samuel Duran said.

In Legazpi City, the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) yesterday placed the province under a state of preparedness for possible floods and landslides amid the bad weather. TJ Burgonio and Mar S. Arguelles, Inquirer Southern Luzon
