More donors in grand bloodletting
More than 300 blood bags were collected during the grand bloodletting held simultaneously at the Cebu City Sports Center and University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue Campus (UCLM) last July 27.
This year’s activity drew more blood donors. Last year, the event only gathered almost 200 bags of blood.
The Grand Bloodletting 2013, with the theme “Every blood donation is a gift of life,” was conducted by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry through its health committee, in collaboration with the Department of Health Regional Blood Center, Philippine Red Cross Cebu Chapter and convening partners, in accordance with the National Blood Donor’s Month celebration.
ROTC cadets from UCLM made up the majority of blood donors, together with the personnel from the Philippine National Police Regional Office 7, Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command, Philippine Air Force, Naval Forces Central and Philippine Association of Detective and Protective Agency Operators.
Major players from the business sector such as the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ayala Business Club of Cebu Inc., International Pharmaceuticals Inc. and People Management Association of the Philippines also showed support with their employees as volunteer blood donors.
The participation of the Cebu City Sports Commission, Association of Barangay Councils, Barangay Zapatera, Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente and Gloria Maris, Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente Community Based, Alay Lakad Foundation and Philippine Network for Organ Sharing contributed to the event’s success.
The event was also supported by the Ramon Chiu Foundation, Tune Hotel, Queen City Food Chain (Dunkin Donuts), Cebu Parklane International Hotel, Julies Franchise Corp., Philippine Spring Water Resources Inc. and Stitches & Wear Industries.
