Grandma killed, daughter hurt in Toong attack

A 61-YEAR-OLD woman was killed while her daughter and a helper were wounded when two unidentified gunman attacked them in their home in barangay Toong, Cebu City last Saturday afternoon.

Police identified the fatality as Vivencia Bacalso, 61, who suffered two gunshot wounds in the abdomen and one in the chest.

According to the victim’s daughter, Angeles Tabas, 30, the woman went to her house to watch over her nine-month daughter who was sick.

Tabas said she and Bacalaso were at the terrace of the house when two unidentified men arrived and without a word opened fire.

Tabas was hit in the chest. Bacalso tried to run inside the house but was shot several times.

Helper, Lonie Bentual, 20, tried to help Bacalso but was shot in the leg.

The gunmen fled to an unknown direction.

Tanods arrived and brought Tabas and the maid to a hospital.

Police said it was learned that Bacalso was involved in selling lands although she was not a licensed broker.

Police said Bacalso had no known enemy in the area. Her daughter is a barangay secretary, while her son is barangay councilor.
