Accident rate on SLEx down by 47 percent

/ 02:22 AM July 30, 2013

Manila Toll Expressway Systems, Inc. (Mates), operator of the 36-kilometer South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) from Alabang to Calamba/TR3 (Sto. Tomas, Batangas), reported a 47 percent decrease in major accidents during the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2012.

The reduction was attributed to the strict enforcement of toll way safety rules, especially on the speed limit. “Driving at the correct speed allows the driver to stay in control even during sudden changes in driving conditions such as sudden stops and blown out tires. Our strict implementation of traffic laws on SLEx is one way to ensure a safer and more pleasant journey for our motorists,” said Inocencio Silbol, Mates traffic and security manager.

The minimum speed on SLEx is 60-kph for all types of vehicles, with 80-kph the maximum speed limit for buses and trucks and 100-kph for cars. When it is raining, Mates suggests a maximum of 80-kph for all vehicle types.
