THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has built a bigger warehouse to store more goods that will be distributed to the local government units (LGUs) in times of calamity.
This bodega was established to ensure quicker response for better service delivery.
DSWD Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat ensured the public that the DSWD’s Quick Response Team (QRT) has the proper equipment to render immediate assistance especially in relief distribution during calamities.
DSWD has allotted a P1 million standby fund for their disaster preparedness plan other than the 3,000 family packs in Cebu, 1,000 family packs in Negros Oriental, 1,000 in Bohol and 500 in Siquijor.
She added that these family packs contain sleeping and cooking materials, toiletries, footwear, underclothing and food items. These goods will be released to the LGUs as augmentation support especially when local resources are limited.
Jabagat said the bodega located in a 1,000 sq.m. property is hazard-free and accessible.
Later, the DSWD will expand this place to accept donations at the same time a space to sort and pack.
Meanwhile, the DSWD is currently conducting an inventory of camps and evacuation centers in towns and cities frequented with disasters.
