Man shot dead while watching TV at home

/ 11:41 PM July 28, 2013

A 26-year-old man was killed on Saturday night by a gunman who entered his house on San Pedro Street in Barangay (village) Commonwealth, Quezon City.

Delfin Garduque Jr. was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors at Fairview General Hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators have yet to establish the motive for the attack. PO2 Jogene Hernandez of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the shooting happened at 10 p.m. on Saturday while the victim and his 50-year-old mother were at home, watching television.

Hernandez said the Garduques apparently had their backs to the door when the armed man entered their house. The gunman started firing at Garduque who was taken by surprise while his mother instinctively dove for cover and later emerged unhurt.

When the shooter fled, the 50-year-old woman immediately sought the help of her neighbors in bringing her son to the nearest hospital but he died along the way.—Jeannette I. Andrade
