A third shooting incident was reported in San Juan City Friday in a span of one week, again with the assailant managing to flee on a motorbike despite the checkpoints set up in key areas around the city.
This time, the wounded victim was a personal assistant of TV celebrity Willie Revillame, police said.
Jose Luis Martinez, 47, was shot in the back by a lone gunman around 8 a.m. while the victim was waiting for a taxi on P. Guevarra Street, Barangay Little Baguio, according to PO2 Eduardo Cabalo.
On Saturday, Colegio de San Juan de Letran basketball player Franz Dysam was wounded and his live-in partner Joan Sordan was killed in an ambush as their vehicle passed through N. Domingo Street.
Four days later, a cockfight financier and her driver were wounded when three men in police uniforms opened fire on their vehicle at the corner of San Miguel and F. Manalo streets. A stray bullet killed a man who was repairing his jeepney nearby.
In Friday’s incident, witnesses recalled that moments before Martinez was shot, he was heard pleading with the attacker: “Not me, not me!”
The gunmen then sped off toward Shaw Boulevard. At least five .45-cal. bullet casings were recovered at the crime scene.
Martinez was rushed to Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
