PWDs want better transport access
Persons with Disabilities are appealing for exemption in the public vehicle loading and unloading rule.
Michael Allan Pielago, president of the federation of PWDs in Mandaue, told reporters yesterday that they should be allowed to embark and disembark in places convenient to them.
As long as it does not impede the flow of traffic, public vehicles like jeepneys, tricycles and taxis should be allowed to stop anywhere for PWDs, Pielago said.
They are also looking to extend their advocacy on loading and unloading areas for senior citizens and pregnant women.
Pielago’s plea aims to give consideration to PWDs in pursuance of the present accessibility law.
“Unta hatagan mi ug considerasyon sa syudad nga maglisod mi especially those with severe disabilities,” Pialago said.

However, Dabon said that the issue still needs to be raised to the Traffic Management Board. After which, it will then be elevated to the City Council.
So far, the city government has been taking the matter positively.
“In terms of loading and unloading, the city government is very supportive,” said Pielago.
This month, the federation started their campaign for the implementation of the accessibility law in government vehicles.
Last July 16, an orientation on the accessibility law was held in Mandaue.
Various stakeholders, including representatives of the Land and Transportation Office and pharmacies, attended the orientation.
