MANILA, Philippines–A third official of the Bureau of Customs has offered to resign from his post after President Benigno Aquino III admonished the agency in his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) last Monday.

Customs Deputy Commissioner for Internal Administration Group Juan Lorenzo Tañada said he submitted his resignation in the form of a text message to Commissioner Ruffy Biazon on Tuesday afternoon.

“I was able to watch the SONA. And as a good soldier, I deemed it best to follow what Commissioner Biazon did as a courtesy to the President and to give him a free reign to determine whether or not we still enjoy his confidence and if he still believes that we are fit [to carry] out our duties as deputy commissioners,” Tañada said in a press briefing on Wednesday.
