After approving the increase in the number of job order employees by about 80 percent last week, Talisay City Mayor Johnny V. Delos Reyes said he will reduce the number next month.
This developed after Budget Officer Edgardo Mabunay explained that maintaining about 2,000 job order workers would eat up the city’s budget for basic services.
Delos Reyes approved last week the hiring of 1,901 job order workers whose salaries would be charged to a P250 million Maintenance, Operations and Other Expenses outlay in Talisay’s annual budget.
The previous administration under Mayor Scorates Fernandez had only 1,199 job orders.
Delos Reyes said it was better to reduce the hiring despite negative feedback he might get from the Talisaynons.
“Sauna hadlok man ta nga naay maligsan pero karon bahala na ug kinsa ang maligsan kay dili man jud nato maplease ang tanan,” Delos Reyes said.
(I used to be afraid of upsetting Talisaynons with my decisions but now I don’t care who gets upset because I can’t please everybody.)
A job order employee will earn P300 a day for five days of work.
Those working six days a week will earn P253.84 a day and those working seven days a week stand to earn P220 daily. Confidential job order workers will receive P500 a day.
The salary grade is based on the 2011 job order rate, said Hazel Bathan, head of the Human Resource Management Office.
Job order contracts vary at 15 days, 30 days and three months. Termination or renewal of job order contracts will depend on their performance, Bathan added.
