Youth gang member wounded in bolo attack

A 20-YEAR-OLD man was repeatedly hacked by another young man while he was walking home in barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City Monday afternoon.

Jade Berdon, a resident of sitio Timpolok, barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu, survived the attack with hack wounds in the face and neck.

Police said the attack could be gang-related since the victim and the assailant are members of warring groups.

The victim is a member of the Bloods gang while the assailant identified only as Boyet belongs to the Crips gang.

Police said Berdon and his two friends Brylie Arazon and Vincent Tanquino came from a drinking session.

Around 5 p.m., the three decided to go home and met Boyet along the road.

Arazon and Tanquino told police that Boyet attacked their friend with a bolo but they couldn’t stop the attack for fear they too would be hit.

Boyet fled when Berdon fell to the ground.

Arazon and Tanquino said that while Boyet was about to flee, he threw a pillbox at them. Fortunately, no one was hit by the splinters.

Berdon was brought to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital. He was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Police conducted a follow-up operation but failed to locate Boyet.

A charge for frustrated murder will be filed today against the suspect, police said./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
