ALA Boxing Gym stalwarts Milan “El Metodico” Melindo and Genesis “Azukal” Servania are both geared up for their bouts on Saturday night at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort and Casino in Macau, China.
Melindo (29-0, 12KOs) posted in his Facebook page that he is currently weighing 111.8 pounds and is determined to maintain his weight for the fight.
The weigh-in is scheduled this Friday at the same venue.
He will be aiming for the WBO and WBA super world flyweight titles against current champion Juan Francisco Estrada (24-2, 18KOs) of Mexico in the main event.
“I’m doing good here,” said Melindo. “I am really in perfect condition because I don’t have to limit my food intake.”
He mentioned that he and Servania are having a lot of guesting in Macau to promote their bouts.
“Macau is an awesome place. It’s really a dream come true for me,” said Melindo, who also revealed that they are scheduled to visit fellow Filipinos in Macau.
To maintain their condition, both boxers are jogging every morning and doing light training and shadow boxing.
Meanwhile, Servania (21-0, 8KOs) will be going up against 30-year old Japanese veteran Konosuke Tomiyama (23-5-1, 8KOs) in a 10-round non-title bout.
He said aside from age, his speed and power will be his advantage against his opponent.
“I’ve worked hard for that,” said the 21-year-old Servania. “I saw his fight tapes and he is very brave and keeps on coming forward.”
Servania is currently two pounds heavier than the 122-pound catch weight but he said he will easily make weight before the official weigh-in.
“I can make weight easily. I’ll just have to sweat this out,” said Servania.
Servania said he won’t force a knockout but instead be patient. He said timing will be his key to victory.
“If [knockout] will come. I’ll just be patient and do everything to win. I’ll do my best to be the aggressor.”
