SWU’s Goloran, CIT-U’s Dimco found ineligible to play for failing Cesafi requirement
The reigning champions Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras title defense is already encountering rough waters even before the ship has gotten out of the shore as their already thin frontcourt is set to become even more depleted with the impending disqualification of power forward Daryl Goloran.
This developed yesterday after the list of qualified players for the upcoming Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament was released by commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy.
Among the notable names that were found to be ineligible was Goloran, the rock-solid forward whose game has improved leaps and bounds after the Cobras’ summer stint in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Preseason Cup in Manila.
According to Tiukinhoy, who headed the screening committee that was composed of Danny Duran, Danny Villadolid, Dioscoro Himotas and Lyle Larida, Goloran failed to meet the 60 percent passing rate that was required of the athletes.
However, SWU athletic director Ryan Aznar vehemently denied this and said there must have been a gross mistake in the committee’s analysis of Goloran’s records.
“Goloran took 15 units and earned nine, which is exactly 60 percent. So I really don’t see why they disqualified him, especially after we thoroughly checked every record before we sent them in,” Aznar said.
Tiukinhoy said that his office is open to an appeal and said they will once again Goloran’s record to be certain of the fact.
Another player who was deemed ineligible for the season is Cebu Institute of Technology-University’s star forward Allan Dimco, who also failed to meet the 60 percent passing rate.
This leaves a gaping hole in the offense of the Wildcats, who was supposedly depending on Dimco to carry the load alongside Floyd Taboada.
